Study Tips

The books of Psalm and Proverbs hold many truths that can be relevant to us
today.  Some of us however may not know just how to access those truths.  I
would like to give just one suggestion.  Read over the book of Psalm and
Proverbs every month and here is how. On the first day of the month, read Psalm
1, 31, 61, 91, 121 and Proverbs 1. Then the second day read Psalm 2, 22, 62, 92,
122 and Proverbs 2. And then just continue on through the month.  In February
you may want to read a few extra chapters at the end of the month and in the
months with more than 30 days you can read Proverbs 31 and you might want to
re-read some of the Psalm and Proverbs that stuck out to you or just take some
time to praise God for the truths that He is revealing to you.  This is just a
suggestion.  Tailor it to your specific needs and study habits.
If you have missed any parts of multi-
part devotions, please send a
request to the above e-mail address
and we will send it to you via e-mail,
or leave your name and address and
we will mail it to you.

Your Choice

I heard it told that if you were ever stranded on a desert island and you were the only one there,
what one item would you want to have with you? Someone answered “a deck of playing cards.”
“Why?” They were quizzed. “Well, you would find you a nice smooth rock and lay all your cards
out and start playing a game of Solitaire and inevitably someone would look over your shoulder
and say, ‘Play the black eight on the red nine.’” But, all joking aside, I think I would want to
have my Bible with me. I mean, who is the one being that will always know where you are at and
be right by your side? Look at what Moses told Joshua.
6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be
afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you
nor forsake you." 7 Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, "Be
strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the LORD swore to their
forefathers to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. 8 The LORD
Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be
afraid; do not be discouraged." Deuteronomy 31:6-8.
Here Joshua probably felt he was on a
deserted island. He was taking over the reins of leadership from Moses. But Moses reminded
him that the Lord would never leave him alone. So, which would you rather have, a deck of cards
or the Lord God Almighty? Enough said. Be blessed.

Knowledge and Wisdom

As the summer winds down, the children (and some adults) are looking at returning to school.
My 9 year old daughter has asked me before why she needs to go to school. One of those
times was when she was learning to read. I told her “Don’t you want to be able to read the
Bible for yourself?” She thought about it for a while and decided that it would be a good idea
to be able to read. In the book of proverbs we see a lot of the wisdom of King Solomon. Here
are the first few verses of that book.
1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: 2
for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; 3 for acquiring a
disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; 4 for giving prudence to the
simple, knowledge and discretion to the young-- 5 let the wise listen and add to their learning, and
let the discerning get guidance-- 6 for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles
of the wise. 7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and
discipline. Proverbs 1:1-7. (NIV).
In James he tells us that “If any of you lacks wisdom, he
should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."
James 1:5. (NIV).
As we go through our day to day tasks we learn, even if we are not attending
school. Yes there
is some knowledge we need that may be considered of the worldly (i.e.
reading, math, science, etc.) but it is needful for our bodies and minds to function in this
world. The wisdom and knowledge of God is what we should really hunger and thirst for. The
secret wisdom and knowledge that God the Father has hidden for us in His Word is ready and
waiting for those of us who are ready and willing to seek it till it is found. Tap into the Holy
Spirit and drink in the knowledge and wisdom of the Father. Be blessed.
